ADULTS AND YOUTH ONLY

LEARNING TO WORK WITH YOUR CHILD
Sometimes parents will take the course themselves as part of the process of learning to do Buteyko with their child. Kathleen will briefly review the protocol for working with children; however, that is not the main focus of the series. She will work one-on-one over Zoom or in person (Toronto) with children only if their parents/caretakers have taken this 6-week series and learned the methods. She finds that this created the best situation for successful outcomes in children.

TIME:
6 Saturday Mornings
9:30 am to 11:30 am EST (Toronto time)

The class is 1.5 hours long, and occasionally, we will end at 11:10 or 11:15 a.m. to ensure we cover the weekly material. Then, people can stay on until 11:30 a.m. if they have questions they want answered.

Kathleen has been and continues to be a faculty member at George Brown College Dance Program since 1999. Currently, she also teaches movement at the Centennial College Acting Program.  Kathleen is the founder and director of REAson d’etre dance, a not-for-profit dance company based in Toronto, Canada. REAson d’etre dance productions produce a weekly dance jam in Toronto, Contact Dance International Film Festival, and dance-theatre productions.

Kathleen has choreographed over 40 dance works and has been nominated for 5 DORA awards. Kathleen has a Master’s in Expressive Arts Therapy with a minor in Psychology and a Psychology certificate from Toronto Metropolitan University. She is the author of “The Healing Dance” published by Charles C.  Thomas. Kathleen was a registered Psychotherapist in private practice for 17 years to run her dance company. Being on the autism spectrum, she also identifies as being neuro-atypical and works to educate the world about neurodiversity. While having autism brings with it challenges it also strengthens Kathleen's ability to see details and patterns in movement, breath, and emotional expression.

Kathleen is a certified teacher of both the Axis Syllabus and Buteyko Breathing. Kathleen trained with Patrick McKeown through the Buteyko Breath Clinic and became certified as a teacher in the Spring of 2022. Kathleen is passionate about both these viewpoints of how our bodies work, and they both inform her daily life. They have helped her enhance endurance in her dancing and also to work to calm her nervous system amid her busy life, taking care of her children and running her dance company.
