Margi Schultz is currently the Director of the Nursing Division at GateWay Community College and the Administrator for MaricopaNursing, a consortium of eight colleges within the Maricopa County Community College District. A graduate of GateWay's nursing program, Dr. Schultz holds an AAS in Nursing, BSN, MSN, and a Ph.D. in Education with a focus in Distance Nursing Education from Capella University. Dr. Schultz worked as a staff nurse in Intensive Care at a large community hospital for six years, becoming the Educator of Critical Services for the hospital system for the six years following that. She has worked as a legal nurse consultant for two years prior to coming to GateWay Community College in 1999 and is dedicated to serving the community and proudly serves as a member of several community boards as well as a volunteer for the AZ Animal Welfare League. Dr. Schultz has a passion for nursing and for assisting nursing and healthcare students attain their goals through lifelong learning.
Keith Rischer, MA, RN, CEN, CCRN is an author, blogger, nurse educator, and staff nurse who has practiced for over 35 years in a wide variety of clinical settings. He currently works in critical care and ED. Defined by his passion for nursing and excellence in education, he is a recognized authority on clinical reasoning and its relevance to nursing practice.
Susan Sportsman, PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN builds upon 40 years of experience as a nurse clinician, educator, and consultant to provide nursing educators with expert guidance and consultation in the areas of student, faculty, and program performance and leadership development. Dr. Sportsman is a sought-after speaker within the higher education and health care communities.
Karin is a nurse educator with a passion for faculty development, test item writing, active teaching strategies, and the integration of the clinical judgment model in nursing education. She has taught Associate Degree Students at Maricopa Community Colleges in Arizona for almost 30 years and BSN completion students at Upper Iowa University. Karin has been involved with many projects, including the first online Associate Degree Registered Nurse program, the National League for Nursing’s HITS scholars’ program, and the National Council State Board of Nursing’s Transition to Practice project to name a few. Karin consults with publishing, and educational technology companies in the development of student learning tools, has co-authored several books on student success and faculty development, and often speaks at national conferences. She is the founding president of the Arizona Simulation Network and past president of the Arizona League for Nursing. She is a Fellow of the Academy of the National League for Nursing, and the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing. Most recently, she was awarded the 2019 Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition by the American Association of Community Colleges. Karin’s favorite classroom saying is, “If your brain doesn’t hurt, I haven’t done my job.”
