Tour Information

The Gila Cliff Dwellings Tour will start at 10:30 with an hour of drive time. The drive will go through the Gila National Forest to the Cliff Dwellings of the Mimbres branch of the Mogollon Native American Tribe. The tour will include a history of use on the land and river over 700 years ago. A hike and tour up to the cliff dwellings and archeology site. One of our NRCS State Office Archeologist did her master thesis on the cliff dwellings and will be the trail guide and moderator for the tour. Total tour time 6 hours with 2 hours of drive time.

The Copper Mine tour will start at noon. It takes 15 minutes to get there. There will be a guide taking the participants into the open pit (its huge!) they will see mine equipment up close (Loaders and Yukons etc.) he will explain the geology/rock formations and the copper seams etc. they the participants will go to the labs and look at soil samples, mineral extraction procedures, etc. and then on the way out, the host will show some mine restoration sites. The rangeland they are creating after mining operations is beautiful! Total tour time 4.5 hours with 30 minutes of drive time.
