What does it take to engineer a sustainable future? How can we harness innovation to build a world that is both circular and resilient?

As the world faces mounting challenges—from climate change to resource scarcity—engineering stands at the forefront of transformative solutions.

To drive this global conversation, the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) and Singapore Polytechnic are once again partnering to present the Charles Rudd Distinguished Global Lectures (CRDGL), as part of the World Engineering Day (WED) celebrations.

WED 2025: CRDGL will delve into the theme ‘Towards a Sustainable World: Engineering the Way Forward’, with a sharp focus on Circular Economy and Resilient Future. These topics aim to spotlight the critical role of engineering in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), driving real-world impact across industries and communities.

Leading experts, innovators and thought leaders from across the world will converge at CRDGL to share insights on sustainable development, explore emerging technologies and tackle the engineering challenges that will define our future.

The event’s Guest-of-Honour is Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development. The distinguished keynote speakers will be His Excellency Suryo Pratomo, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia and Mr Kelvin Wong, Chief Executive Officer, Building and Construction Authority.

WED 2025: CRDGL aligns with WED’s overarching goal of ‘Shaping Sustainable Future through Engineering’. Featuring a three-hour hybrid lecture on 11 February 2025, the event is expected to draw over 1,000 local and overseas participants.

This prestigious lecture series pays tribute to the late Er. Charles Rudd, a visionary engineer and esteemed IES member, whose profound legacy includes a generous bequest of over $1 million to IES.

Join us as we push the boundaries of engineering and chart a course towards a better future.
