"Women Without Borders" is this year's theme and highlights the efforts of a Fondo Semillas grantee - Mesoamerican  Migrant Movement - to help mothers find their missing children and other relatives who have "disappeared" on the migrant trail to the U.S.  At the event, you will hear about the inspiring work of Martha Sanchez Soler, a Founder of the Mesoamerican Migrant Movement, and about the impact of migration on families and communities in Mexico and Central America.

We invite you to enjoy:

* A Mercado including one of a kind, hand-woven clothes and products from two of fFondo Semillas grantees - women's weaving cooperatives in Chiapas and Oaxaca

* Silent Auction

* A youth music ensemble

* Cocktails and dinner, featurig delicious Mexican food

* DJ and dancing

Fondo Semillas is a non-profit organization focused on improving women’s lives in Mexico. We dream of a country where all women, indigenous, mestiza, black, young, migrant, heterosexual, lesbian, mothers, and students alike, can make their own decisions and have access to health services, a decent job, justice, and happiness. To achieve this, Fondo Semillas supports groups and organizations of women. Throughout the past 27 years, Fondo Semillas has directly benefited more than 685 thousand women and 2.5 million more women, girls, boys, and men indirectly. Organized women themselves identify the problems they face and propose solutions. Fondo Semillas provides them with economic resources, capacity building, and coaching, and strengthens their abilities and alliance building. Instead of providing a short-term solution to the conditions of injustice and inequality women face in Mexico, Fondo Semillas works to structurally fight these issues and makes approximately 100 grants each year to groups in different states across Mexico. Chicago Semillas was founded 11 years ago to raise funds to support Fondo Semillas in Mexico. All of our members are intensely committed to the life-changing vision of Fondo Semillas and of its grantees. We believe that the issues challenging indigenous women in Mexico don’t stop at the border. Together, let’s build bridges, not walls.
