White Cane Community Day is free and open to the public. Visitors can participate in a series of experiential activities such as the blindfold walks, Orientation & Mobility (O&M) obstacle course and ‘Activities of Daily Living’ (ADL) simulation. Other highlights include meet and greet with guide dog teams and talks by eye care professionals. Participants stand a chance to receive goodie bags and win prizes in the lucky draws and fun fact quizzes throughout the event.
Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (GDS) is a non-profit voluntary welfare organisation formed in 2006. It focuses on enhancing the quality of life for the blind and visually impaired people in Singapore through the provision of training and rehabilitation programmes such as Orientation & Mobility (O&M) and Guide Dogs Programme. GDS actively advocates for an inclusive society where every blind and visually impaired person is empowered for independent living. To date, GDS has served more than 200 beneficiaries and successfully paired six Guide Dog teams, the latest of which will be graduating at White Cane Community Day. GDS is an associate member with the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) and holds the Institute of Public Character (IPC) status.
