UTSC Theatre and Performance is excited to present lady in the red dress written by David Yee, directed by Professor Carla Melo.
Blending ghost story, noir thriller, and time-travel, lady in the red dress explores the intertwining of personal and collective histories. Max, a government official, is haunted by a mysterious and menacing woman in red who forces him to reckon with the intergenerational consequences of past wrongs. Dragged into the 1920s in search of the Chinese immigrant Tommy Jade, Max comes face-to-face with how racist state policies, denial, and empty apologies continue to shape the present. Darkly humorous and uncompromising, the play demands a vision of justice beyond symbolic redress.
Content Warning: This production contains depictions of violence, racism and misogyny, as well as strong language and racial slurs. Some scenes may be emotionally challenging. Mild heartbeat-like strobe effects, light flickering, fog, and haze may be used.
