Dear Member,

The IStructE Regional Group , wish to invite you to the following hybrid presentation:

Discover how IoT-enabled sensors are revolutionizing durability management by providing real-time data on structural health. This talk explores how engineers can use this data to monitor durability, prevent failures, and extend asset life

In an era where asset longevity and proactive maintenance are more critical than ever, this talk explores how IoT-enabled sensors are transforming structural health monitoring. Attendees will discover how embedded smart systems can capture real-time data on corrosion, environmental conditions, and material degradation—providing engineers with actionable insights to assess durability, detect early signs of failure, and optimize maintenance strategies. The session will include case studies from civil and industrial infrastructure, demonstrating how IoT can shift structural management from reactive to predictive, ultimately extending asset life and reducing lifecycle costs.

Location : Heriot-Watt University Dubai
Date : 21st October 2025
Time : 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

About the Speaker:

Usama Jacir - Pulse Technologies

Usama Jacir is the Founder and CEO of Pulse Technologies, a Dubai-based pioneer in IoT solutions for structural durability monitoring. A Chemical Engineer by education with a specialty in corrosion, Usama has over 30 years of experience in durability engineering, covering a wide spectrum of concrete protection and repair technologies including specialty chemicals, cathodic protection, and protective coatings and linings.

He has published several peer-reviewed technical papers with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP, formerly NACE). Over the course of his career, Usama has contributed to many iconic projects such as the Burj Khalifa, the Expo 2020 Metro, and the Sustainability Pavilion, where he applied his expertise in corrosion control and infrastructure protection.

Today, through Pulse Technologies, he leads innovation in real-time asset health monitoring, with a mission to extend the service life of civil and industrial structures through proactive, data-driven maintenance strategies.
