This programme is for all coaches seeking to better understand childhood adversity and trauma in young people and how it can impact on their behaviours, and the quality of their lives. The day will also provide practical strategies to help coaches engage and build trust with young people who have experienced trauma, helping them to fully participate and benefit from activities. Trauma-informed coaching ensures that those who have experienced trauma are supported in a compassionate and effective manner, creating safer and more engaging environments for all participants.
Outcomes - By the end of the day, participants will be able to:
- Understand how psychological trauma can greatly effect behaviour
- Describe trauma in children and young people | Identify types of trauma | Identify conditions in which trauma develops | Recognise how trauma impacts the body and brain | Understand Calm, Connect, Communicate as a trauma informed approach.
- Develop and demonstrate Calm strategies and active coaching approaches to improve motor control, self-awareness and engagement.
- Develop and demonstrate Connect strategies and active coaching approaches to improve non-verbal communication, team work, cooperation and empathy.
- Develop and demonstrate Communicate strategies and active coaching approaches to improve problem solving, leadership and skills acquisition.

Please note that by submitting your 'register for interest' form, you are agreeing to a cancellation fee payable to PLCF (£150 for courses that are made up of two or less sessions and £300 for courses that have more than two sessions) per delegate, which will be charged back to your CCO in the following circumstances:
- You give less than 14 days notice of your withdrawal without suitable replacement
- You fail to attend on the day
- You fail to attend the full duration of the training day(s)
- You fail to complete the full course (this includes any coursework, examinations or other requirements in addition to attending all training sessions)
