The African-American experience is one that is both complex and unique. Many of our elders have remarkable life stories that they have yet to share with their loved ones. There are also small details about their every day being that are worth knowing so that can be remembered and passed on to younger generations. Once our elders transition, it is too late for the loved ones they leave behind to ask questions about the unexplored parts of their lives.
This uniqexperience will combine storytelling, creative writing, group activities, a memorialization project, and visual documentation to cultivate an experience like no other. This is an incredible opportunity for participants to preserve the small details and the incredible moments that make up their life's story, in an intimate, UPLIFITING and heartfelt way.
Each participant will create a modern day, non-burial time capsule to capture the meaningful moments of their lives and record the most precious details. They will also be part of a special video project, a copy of which will be provided to each participant as a timeless memento that for their loved ones.
