Title: The role of Catholic social thought in promoting ethics and the practice of the virtues in business, entrepreneurship and investment

Abstract: Catholic social encyclicals are addressed to, and often admired by, all people of goodwill. The whole teaching of the Church has addressed questions of ethics in business for 2,000 years, but recent encyclicals have done so in a modern context taking into account developments in finance, the environment and, most recently, AI. This talk will look at some Catholic social thought and teaching in relation to business, entrepreneurship and investment and how the practice of the virtues should be taken into account in everyday decision making. Lessons for the teaching of economics and business will be drawn.
