Alright, I'm excited for this one! I wanted to do something a little Halloween-y but also keep it on the lighter side for the kids. So we're heading out to Lakeview Cemetary in Cleveland.
If you've never been, it's a beautiful 285 acres of gardens, amazing views, "horticultural gems," and historical landmarks. When I was in grad school I lived on E. 123rd and would walk around Lakeview weekly. The best times to visist are in the spring when Daffodil Hill is in bloom, or in the fall when the leaves are changing. It's breathtaking all year round, though!
We will meet near the James A. Garfield Memorial. Please use this in your GPS for directions. The cemetery is large, and if you enter off Euclid Ave and park somewhere off Lakeview Cemetart Rd it could take you 20 minutes to get to the Garfield Memorial. The easiest way to get there is to enter off of Mayfield Rd, and stay to the left. There isn't a parking lot, but the website says "Parking is available anywhere throughout the cemetary unless a no parking sign specifically prohibits it. Please keep all tires of your vehicle on the roadway when parking."
We will walk as a family throughout the area for about 45 minutes. Afterwards if you'd like to visit the Garfield Memorial or leave to go to Little Italy or back home you're free to do so. The website mentions "rolling hills" a few times, so be prepared to walk hills!
Bicycles and scooters cannot be used while on Cemetary grounds.
The Garfield Memorial is free, and open until 4pm, and closes for the season on Oct 30th. The tower is 150 high and provides great views of downtown Cleveland.
Littly Italy is just down the hill of Mayfield Rd with plenty of family friendly restaraunts. My personal favorites are Mama Santas and Presti's. You can also get to Cleveland History Center, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, MOCA Cleveland, and Cleveland Botanical Garden within 10 minutes.
