The Creatives Studio: Presents an Evening with Tom Putt

Tom Putt is a professional landscape photographer and photographic educator based on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria with his partner and 5 kids.

Tom has been a professional photographer for 23 years. His interest in photography grew from his love of the outdoors and nature. At nine years old after a family trip to Europe, Tom fell in love with birds. For the next five years he would pursue his love volunteering for a local wildlife group most weekends to capture, band and release wading birds. It is through the leader of this group, Clive Minton, that Tom would develop and grow his skill as a photographer.

Tom would leave school and study a degree with honours in psychology and sociology. His interest in triathlon at university would lead him to pursue sports photography most weekends. Having developed a strong portfolio of work, he approach Australia’s leading sports photography agency, Sport the Library, once completing his degree. He was fortunate to obtain a position with the agency as a staff photographer. For the next three years, Tom would cover over 300 sports events, including the Sydney 2000 Olympics. 

With a strong interest in landscape photography since his teenage years, Tom became inspired by the art of Ken Duncan. That set a course for the next 20 years where to Tom travelled Australia capturing the beauty of this country. 

In 2005, frustrated with the lack of photographic workshops available for people to learn how to shoot landscapes, Tom set up his own workshops. To this day, he continues to run these workshops across Australia and worldwide. Tom is considered one of the leaders in his industry.

Today he sells his fine art photography through his own signature gallery in the seaside suburb of Mornington, Victoria.
