Participants will then discuss how their Function will change as they become managers. Participants will also discuss common problems faced by new managers such as "How can I make sure workers are aware of my new role and treat me well as a manager?"

 

Responsibilities for a Supervisor

Participants will be able to explore their three main areas of responsibility during this session.

 

Attitudes and Behaviors

This session will discuss some attitudes and behaviours that can help managers succeed. The session will cover topics such as creating the right environment, motivating from within, and continuing learning.

 

Setting Goals

Participants will be able to set goals with SPIRIT during this session.

 

Planning for Success

Participants will then discuss the importance of long-term and short-term planning. In addition to the components of a great plan, time management tips and email strategies are covered.

 

Active Listening Techniques

Participants will practice and learn active listening skills during this session.

 

Communication Skills

This session will cover questioning skills, probing methods, as well as non-verbal messages.

 

Giving Feedback

Although giving feedback is one of the most important skills for managers, it can be difficult. Participants will learn how to master this valuable skill. Participants will also learn how to get feedback.

 

Instructions

This session will discuss how to give clear instructions.

 

Tips, Orders, and Requests

Participants will learn about the three types of instructions during this session.

 

Managing Conflict

Unfortunately, many supervisors are called into mediation. This session will teach participants how to handle conflict.

 

How to Manage Challenging Situations

Participants will learn how to organize difficult conversations. They'll then discuss how to handle difficult situations.

 

Building Relationships

Participants will wrap up the session by looking at their personal networks and how they can be positive influences within them. Participants will also discuss how to build credibility.

 

Course Wrap Up

Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and create an action plan at the end of this program.
