About the Presenter: Gustavo Bomben is the founder and legal representative of FAMA, an Italian tunnelling company with over 30 years of international experience. A mechanical technician and entrepreneur, he has held leadership roles in business and local government. Passionate about innovation, he has patented around ten products and collaborated with Italian universities and technology centres. He is also an active contributor to international tunnelling organizations and conferences.
Event Content: The growing demand for sustainable solutions in wastewater management has highlighted the shortcomings of currently used technologies. In particular, microbiological corrosion of concrete leads to high maintenance costs in sewer infrastructure. Most of the solutions currently available in the tunnelling industry present limited long-term durability, lack comprehensive protection and introduce significant complexity during tunnel construction. This increases operational challenges and ultimately raises project costs. FAMA has designed a system for the protection of segments and for hydraulic sealing of mechanized tunnels in contaminated environments. A key advantage of this system is that it requires no welding during installation, ensuring a faster, safer and more efficient on-site process. This simplifies handling and reduce labour intensity. The system is the innovative and tailored solution based on the unique combination of five available sealing levels. This innovative approach overcomes the shortcoming of the existing methods, improving the durability of the tunnel lining and chemical resistance to aggressive wastewater. The final outcome is a more sustainable solution that assure a reduction of project time and cost, both on short and long term.
