IStructE UAE Regional Group Committee is inviting you to a talk (online) by Mr. Murali Guruvappan, Design Director, Nine Era Engineering Consultants on the topic “Structural Engineers: The Influencers? Case studies: How may structural engineers positively influence other design stakeholders?” scheduled on Tuesday, May 21st 2024 at 7:00pm.
The author will present a few case studies where structural engineers could potentially positively influence other design stakeholders. The discussion also covers the attributes that enable structural engineers to overcome hurdles in day-to-day practice.
The job of structural engineers involves not just designing structures but also effectively communicating and influencing other design stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for the project. The speaker will present several case studies, drawn from his personal experience and direct involvement, in which the structural engineer has positively influenced project social outcomes by promoting efficient and sustainable design solutions, despite constraints and challenges during the design phase. The presentation will also highlight the key attributes that enabled the structural engineer to achieve this outcome and add value to the built environment, including technical expertise, effective communication, adaptability, collaboration abilities and a commitment to safety and sustainability.

Murali possesses over 25 years of experience in civil and structural design, specializing in a wide range of projects including multi-story residential towers, commercial buildings, hotels/leisure centres, retail shopping malls, schools, cultural institutions, building restorations, parking garages, and healthcare facilities. He has special interest in the analysis and design of various structural systems for low, mid, and high-rise buildings. Currently, Murali acts as a Design Director, leading the Structural Engineering team at 9E Global.
