Core Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Barcelona
Welcome to Barcelona! After arriving, transfer to our group hotel. Spend the rest of your day relaxing before meeting the group at 4pm for orientation. Today is your opportunity to relax and recover from your overseas travel to Spain and meet your co-travelers.
Day 2: Barcelona

Start your day with breakfast at our hotel, and then enjoy a photo walk at your leisure in the surrounding areas before meeting our driver for our late afternoon photo tour. Mornings are the perfect time to visit the famous Parc Güell before it gets too crowded.
Gothic Quarter Exploration
Our tour begins in the Gothic Quarter, rich in medieval architecture:
- Plaça Reial: Capture the plaza's symmetrical design, beautifully accentuated by Gaudí’s intricate lampposts and the towering elegance of palm trees. The combination of architectural details and natural elements creates a vibrant, balanced composition perfect for photography enthusiasts.
- The Carrer del Bisbe, nestled in the heart of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, is renowned for its striking neo-Gothic bridge. This ornate bridge, often referred to as the "Bishop's Bridge," elegantly arches over the narrow street, connecting historical government buildings. Crafted in 1928, the bridge features intricate stonework, detailed carvings, and Gothic-inspired tracery, creating a picturesque and timeless charm. Its enchanting design, coupled with the surrounding medieval ambiance, makes Carrer del Bisbe a must-visit for history enthusiasts and architectural admirers alike.

Tour of Sagrada Familia
No trip to Barcelona would be complete without a visit to the architectural marvel of Sagrada Familia, Gaudí’s iconic basilica. Included with the tour is admission to the basilica and access to one of the towers for amazing views of the city.

Today we’ll finish our day by photographing Sagrada Familia just after sunset and into twilight. We’ll be able to capture silhouettes and the dramatic blue hour skies with the basilica, making for some memorable shots.
Day 3: Excursion to Montserrat

Morning: Independent exploration time in Barcelona. We’ll depart from Barcelona in the afternoon for an unforgettable afternoon and evening in Montserrat, a site steeped in history and nestled against jagged mountain peaks. The scenic drive offers glimpses of Catalonia's rich landscape, setting the stage for an immersive historical journey.
The awe-inspiring Montserrat Monastery, founded in the 11th century, has withstood centuries of change, surviving wars and political upheavals. Its resilient architecture, framed by rugged cliffs, tells stories of monastic life, spirituality, and Catalonia’s cultural evolution.
Step inside the Basilica of Montserrat to marvel at the revered Black Madonna statue, also known as La Moreneta. Believed to have been carved in Jerusalem around the 12th century, this Romanesque statue has drawn countless pilgrims, including Saint Ignatius of Loyola. The basilica itself showcases intricate Gothic and Renaissance influences, with golden altars and vibrant stained glass detailing Montserrat’s religious heritage.
Ascend via the funicular to Sant Joan, where panoramic vistas stretch across Catalonia. Historically, these heights served as vantage points for both monks and local inhabitants, offering natural fortification and spiritual retreat. The rugged landscapes below have witnessed centuries of footpaths carved by pilgrims and shepherds.
Art enthusiasts will enjoy the Montserrat Museum. Beyond its modern exhibits, the museum houses medieval artifacts and religious relics that trace the abbey's influence through time. Works by Picasso, Dalí, and El Greco highlight how Montserrat’s spiritual aura inspired generations of artists.
Day 4: Exploring Barcelona’s Architecture

Today we have the morning free to explore Barcelona on your own, or to visit one of the local museums. In the afternoon, we’ll meet our driver to explore Barcelona’s rich architecture in golden light, concluding with a twilight shoot at Plaza d’Espanya and the Venetian Towers.
Passeig de Gràcia Architecture Walk
Today we’ll begin by walking the famous Passeig de Gràcia, home to modernist gems:
- Casa Batlló: Notice the undulating façade with shimmering mosaic tiles (trencadís). Focus on the bone-like balconies and the dragon-scale roof symbolizing St. George’s legend. It’s the perfect place to capture reflections in the glass for layered compositions.
- Casa Milà (La Pedrera): Highlight the wavy stone façade and ironwork balconies—best shot with side lighting to accentuate curves. The rooftop chimneys resemble surreal warriors; position yourself low to emphasize their form against the sky.
- Casa Amatller: Look for the stepped gable roof and detailed ceramic tiles—ideal for close-ups.
Evening Shoot: Montjuïc Hill & Plaça d'Espanya
- Montjuïc Castle: Perched atop the hill, this historic fortress offers panoramic views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. The sunset hues from here are breathtaking.
- Magic Fountain of Montjuïc: Best visited in the evening, the fountain’s light and water shows create dynamic, colorful scenes perfect for photography.
- Joan Miró Foundation: The museum’s striking modern architecture and vibrant artworks provide unique photo opportunities, both indoors and out.
- Poble Espanyol: This open-air architectural museum replicates Spanish villages and offers charming streets, squares, and artisan workshops to capture.
- Botanical Garden: A serene spot with diverse plant species, this garden offers lush greenery and picturesque walking paths.
- Olympic Ring: Home to the 1992 Summer Olympics facilities, including the imposing Palau Sant Jordi and the futuristic Montjuïc Communications Tower, providing striking architectural shots.

Here, we will set up our tripods to photograph the Venetian Towers and Magic Fountain after sunset during the magical “blue hour.”
Day 5: Tarragona, Peñíscola, and Valencia, Spain

Today, we say goodbye to Barcelona and continue our journey onward to Valencia.
We’ll make stops in Tarragona and Peñíscula along the way.
Tarragona
Tarragona, located in Catalonia, northeastern Spain, boasts a rich history that dates back to ancient times. Originally founded by the Iberians, it later became a prominent Roman colony known as Tarraco. As the capital of the Roman province of Hispania Citerior, Tarraco flourished due to its strategic coastal position on the Mediterranean, serving as a vital military and trade hub.
The remnants of Tarragona's Roman past are central to its cultural identity. Notable archaeological sites include the impressive Roman amphitheater overlooking the sea, the well-preserved city walls, and the intricate mosaic floors of ancient villas. The Roman Forum and the Aqueduct of Les Ferreres, also known as the "Devil’s Bridge," showcase advanced engineering techniques of the era. These historical treasures collectively earned Tarragona’s archaeological ensemble a UNESCO World Heritage designation in 2000.
- Tarragona Amphitheater: Capture stunning shots of the ancient Roman structure with the Mediterranean Sea as the backdrop.

Peñíscola
Departing Tarragona, we head to Peñíscula. The drive along the coast takes approximately 1.5 hours.
Peñíscola is a remarkable destination where history, culture, and natural beauty converge, offering an unforgettable experience for travelers and history enthusiasts alike. Peñíscola is a captivating coastal town nestled along the Mediterranean Sea. Known for its blend of historical richness and stunning seaside vistas, Peñíscola is often referred to as the "City in the Sea" due to its strategic position on a rocky headland connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land.
Here, we’ll photograph the architectural marvel of Peñíscola Castle, and find photo opportunities around every corner exploring the Old Quarter. Look for the famous blue doorways and whitewashed buildings here.
Afternoon: Travel to Valencia
Depart Peñíscola for Valencia, a drive of approximately 2 hours.

Day 6: Exploring Valencia’s History and Architecture

Today we’ll capture the essence of Valencia’s history, blending its rich architectural heritage with the vibrant street life.
- Plaça de l'Ajuntament: We’ll start this morning at the vibrant city center. Capture shots of the grand City Hall, the majestic Post Office building with its ornate details, and the bustling square alive with morning activity.
- Mercat Central: Just a short walk away, head to Valencia’s Central Market. The Art Nouveau architecture, colorful stained glass, and bustling stalls brimming with fresh produce offer dynamic photo opportunities.
- La Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange): Cross the street to this UNESCO World Heritage site. Photograph the intricate Gothic architecture, spiral columns, and vaulted ceilings. The play of light through the windows adds dramatic contrast.
- Valencia Cathedral and Plaza de la Virgen: Wander towards the Cathedral of Valencia, known for its mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles. Capture the Miguelete Tower, then stroll to Plaza de la Virgen for more historic charm with the Basilica of the Virgin and the Turia Fountain.
- Torres de Serranos: Walk through the narrow cobbled streets of the old town to these imposing medieval towers. Climb to the top for panoramic shots of Valencia’s rooftops and the old city walls.

Day 7: Valencia to Lisbon – Arrival & Exploration

Flight from Valencia to Lisbon: We’ll depart for the Valencia airport around 7am for our flight to Lisbon. We’ll then transfer to our group hotel in Valencia. After refreshing, embark on a leisurely exploration of the vibrant areas surrounding our hotel. We’ll go out for a golden hour photo walk before returning for the evening. Overnight in Lisbon.
Day 8: Exploring Lisbon

Today you have the quiet morning hours to explore Lisbon on your own before we embark on on our afternoon/evening shooting session.
Alfama District Exploration
Wander through Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood, where afternoon light casts dramatic shadows:
- Miradouro de Santa Luzia: Capture panoramic views of red rooftops and the Tagus River, using polarizing filters to enhance the sky’s intensity.
- Lisbon Cathedral: Emphasize strong contrasts on the Romanesque façade with side lighting.
- Narrow Alleys: Capture colorful azulejos (ceramic tiles), local daily life, and vintage trams with rich textures highlighted by the golden hour glow.
- Baixa & Praça do Comércio
We’ll then head to Lisbon’s downtown heart as the light begins to soften:
- Rua Augusta Arch: Shoot symmetrical compositions, experimenting with shadow play in the late afternoon.

Today we travel by private minibus to Cabo da Roca, Sintra, and Cascais.

Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of mainland Europe. The rugged cliffs dramatically plunge into the Atlantic Ocean, offering breathtaking panoramic views, seascapes, and landscape shots.
Sintra: A Fairytale Town
We’ll continue our journey today by exploring Sintra, known for its romantic 19th-century architecture and mystical atmosphere. Some of our locations here include:
- Pena Palace: Shoot the vibrant red and yellow façades, whimsical towers, and sweeping views over the Sintra hills.
- Quinta da Regaleira: Photograph enigmatic gardens, the famous Initiation Well with its spiraling staircase, and gothic architectural details.
Depart for Cascais
We embark on a picturesque 40-minute drive along winding coastal roads reveals stunning views of cliffs and the Atlantic.
Cascais: Coastal Charm
Welcome to Cascais, where we’ll stroll through this vibrant seaside town known for its historic charm, bustling marina, and scenic beaches and look for photographic opportunities.
- Boca do Inferno (Hell’s Mouth): A dramatic sea arch where waves crash through limestone cliffs. The perfect place to try a long exposure!

Coastal Drive Back to Lisbon

Day 10: Exploring Fátima & Nazaré

Fátima: A Spiritual Sanctuary
Today, we travel by private minibus to Fátima, one of the world's most significant pilgrimage sites. This serene town is deeply rooted in the events of 1917, when three shepherd children reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary.
- Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima: Capture the grandeur of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary with its stunning bell tower and neo-baroque architecture. The expansive esplanade offers symmetrical compositions, especially striking during early morning light or late afternoon shadows.
- Chapel of the Apparitions: The heart of the sanctuary, this simple yet profound chapel marks the exact spot of the Marian apparitions. Document the devout atmosphere, flickering candles, and pilgrims in reflective prayer.

Continuing on, we’ll travel to Nazaré, a picturesque fishing town renowned for its towering cliffs, golden beaches, and record-breaking waves.
- Sitio da Nazaré: Perched atop a dramatic promontory, this viewpoint offers sweeping panoramas of the Atlantic coastline and the town below. The contrast between rugged cliffs and the expansive ocean makes for breathtaking landscape shots.
- Fort of São Miguel Arcanjo: This 16th-century fort stands defiantly against crashing waves. It's an iconic spot for photographing surfers challenging Nazaré’s legendary giant waves, particularly during big wave season.
- North Beach (Praia do Norte): Known for its monstrous waves, this beach is a haven for surf photographers. Capture the dynamic energy of the ocean, with surfers appearing as tiny silhouettes against towering water walls.
