Our Program

“Life Events and Tax Consequences”:

Thomas Murphy is an attorney who has worked in the Phoenix area for more than 30 years, with a focus on estates and trusts, elder law, probate matters and general tax law.   Tom will focus on a number of “Big D’s”, such as divorce, dementia, disability, death of a spouse, death (or disability) of a parent.  Such situations are usually accompanied by emotional distress, financial uncertainty, unpleasant choices and in some cases, challenging tax issues. Tom will discuss how you can assist your dying client, and help minimize post-mortem tax issues. Tom Murphy’s overview of these issues should help the tax professional identify ways to minimize adverse tax consequences for clients who are experiencing such situations.

"One Big Beautiful Bill Act - What is in the New Law?":

Join us for the ultimate overview and analysis of the OBBBA legislation at its four-month mark, as Ed Zollars focuses on key individual and business provisions in the law, with special attention to what hasn’t changed, what’s new and what’s gone.  By the end of October, IRS and Treasury will (hopefully) have initial guidance on some of the new measures, a number of which will be retroactive to the beginning of 2025.  Ed will also discuss planning opportunities for clients during the last two months of 2025 – what to accelerate, what to defer.

“What Color is your RED Folder?”:

“Death and taxes” - the only two things in life that are certain.  If this seminar had an estate and trust theme, we might be discussing how to minimize the post-mortem tax bite.  The focus in this seminar, however, is the death of the tax practitioner, especially if that death is unexpected.

How thoughtful it would be if the dead tax professional had left some written notes about his or her tax practice.  They planned to, but just never got around to it.

This seminar deals with professional responsibility, trusted client relationships, confidential materials, risks of inadvertent disclosures, recordkeeping, password paranoia and hopefully some common sense.

Join Jack Wood, EA, as we consider difficult circumstances and ideally find some workable solutions.
