The SHM Utah Chapter is holding an in-person event on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. MT at Nona Bistro in Salt Lake City, UT. Please join us for networking and for an educational talk on "From Reflex to Reason: Rethinking Common Infectious Disease Myths in Hospital Medicine" provided by Payal Patel, MD.

Speakers

Dr. Payal Patel is an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases at Intermountain Health and the enterprise-wide Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship. She is an infectious diseases physician committed to advancing antimicrobial stewardship across health systems in the United States and globally. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles in the field and has mentored more than 40 medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty. She currently serves as a voting member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB) and leads multiple enterprise stewardship initiatives at Intermountain Health. She is an active leader in national organizations including the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, where she has advanced stewardship education, policy, and research efforts. Dr. Patel is also a sought-after national and international speaker and has received multiple honors for her contributions to the field, including recognition as a Best Speaker by SHEA.
