The SHM Sacramento Chapter will be hosting an in-person event on Thursday, May 22nd at 6:00 p.m. PT at Zinfandel Grille in Sacramento, CA. Please join the chapter to meet and network with other hospitalists in your community and for a compelling discussion on Sepsis Outcomes as a Way of Understanding Health Equity, led by Dr. Piri Ackerman-Barger. She will explore how disparities in sepsis outcomes can serve as a lens for understanding broader issues of health equity.
Dr. Piri Ackerman-Barger is the associate dean for Student Affairs and Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, as well as clinical professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. Ackerman-Barger’s academic interests relate to student success and health equity. Over her career, Ackerman-Barger has utilized her expertise in health professions education to advance inclusive learning environments and to prepare equity-minded healthcare professionals. She is a national consultant and speaker on strategies to help underserved and underrepresented groups in health professions thrive academically. Her ongoing interdisciplinary work was recognized in 2023 when Dr. Ackerman-Barger was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Public Service conferred by the University of Portland.
