Join us for a two-hour semi-private consultation led by CICC regulated consultants Martha Acosta and Carolina Feican. In this session, we will explore the significant changes to Canada's 2025 immigration policies and how these affect temporary residents in New Brunswick. We will address key issues such as extension of study permits, postgraduate work permits (PGWP), open work permits for family members and possible pathways to permanent residence.

Presenters

Martha Acosta, Regulated Consultant:

Martha holds a Master's degree in Anthropology from the University Paris X Nanterre and a Bachelor's degree in Communications. Her experience in Canada ranges from managing integration services to university teaching. She is fluent in Spanish, English and French, providing consultations in these languages.

Carolina Feican, Regulated Consultant and Director of Operations:

A graduate in International Studies from the University of Azuay in Ecuador, Carolina holds a postgraduate degree in Canadian Immigration Law, Policy and Procedures from the University of British Columbia. Since 2017, she has worked with new immigrants, specializing in immigration processes for Latino populations. She speaks native Spanish, advanced English and B2 level French, holding an additional regulation for Quebec immigration.

6:00 PM - 6:10 PM: Welcome and Introduction

6:10 PM - 6:40 PM: Extension of Study Permits and Open Work Permits for Student Spouses 

  • Recent changes in the extension of study permits, application process, and important considerations for future projections. 
  • Impact of spousal work permit extensions
  • Current eligibility criteria and application procedures. 
  • Alternate avenues for coping with impacts due to changes.  

 

6:40 PM - 7:10 PM: Transition to PGWP (Post-Graduation Work Permit) and spousal work permit extension 

  • Process for transitioning from study permit to PGWP.
  • Policy updates and their impact on post-graduation employment.
  • Effects of PGWP on spousal work permits.
  • Extending work permits and important procedural considerations. 

7:10 PM - 7:40 PM: Pathways to Permanent Residence

  • Introduction to the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), Express Entry and the Atlantic Immigration Program.
  • Important considerations with regards to recent changes. 

7:40 PM - 8:00 PM: Q&A & Closing
