A digital spirit space,
The dark moon as generative ontology,
A practice ground for freedom,
Inspired by Caribbean maroons
And African hush harbors
~ASL interpretation provided~
For the age of Aquarius, I'm hoping to move away from racist algorithms that concentrate resources in the hands of the already famous, while silencing and shadow banning Black and indigenous voices. We're following the lead of Chahney GH and their ancestors in the tradition of marronage: African people who escaped colonized spaces and created free communities (often in the hills of Caribbean islands). We also gather in the spirit of hush harbors, a sacred African American tradition on Turtle Island, wherein Black folks slipped into the forest at night to practice communal care.
We defy and decry the racist, colorist thinking that codes "shadow," "darkness" and "blackness" as bad, evil or dangerous. We declare that the dark moon is sacred. As the bright side of the moon rests, the stars shine brighter. We will call down constellational allies from the Pleiades, Orion and more. We celebrate the goodness of yin energy, the dark and quiet potential of moonless nights. We come together in humble reverence of the new moon's dark glory, ready to learn whatever hidden wisdom may be revealed.
