CCNY Sculpture Studio Woodshop Safety Training

The CCNY Sculpture Studio Woodshop Safety Training is a one-time, 2 hour training session designed to introduce you to general woodshop safety and to provide you with an understanding of the safety rules that you are required to follow when working in the CCNY Sculpture Studio. In addition general safety, you will be introduced to some of the most commonly used tools in the woodshop, receiving hands-on safety training for the following tools: table saw, miter saw, band saw, and drill press.

After the training session, you will be required to take an exam. You may take the exam immediately following the 2 hour training session or you may choose to come back anytime during Sculpture Studio Open Hours to take it.

Spring 2016 Sculpture Studio Open Hours are: Mondays 5-9pm, Thursdays 5-9pm, Fridays 1-5pm. These hours are posted at the entrance to CG-146.

Once completing the exam with a grade of 80% or higher, you will be authorized to use the tools listed above. You may be introduced to additional tools as needed by your course instructor during class time or by your CLT (College Lab Technician) during open hours.

In order to use power tools during CCNY Sculpure Studio Open Hours, you are REQUIRED to attend this training session AND pass the corresponding written exam with an 80% or higher.

Important Information About Training:

·      If you show up more than 10 minutes late, you will be asked to register for a new session.

·      Plan to be here for at least a full two hours.

If you have the time and choose to take the written exam immediately following training, you will be here for an additional half hour.

·      Show up wearing comfortable, sturdy shoes that cover your feet entirely (no high heels, sandals, flip-flops, etc.)

·      Show up wearing clothing that does not hang loose about your body.

If this is not possible due to religious beliefs, please secure loose fabric close to your body with safety pins or by other means. Loose clothing can become entangled in moving parts, pulling the wearer into machinery and causing serious injury!

·      If you have long hair, bring something to tie it back with.

Loose hair can also be pulled into moving parts!

·      The woodshop is a dusty environment and wood is a rough material; wearing your finest attire is not recommended.
