The Soul Senders are going to camp!
We are taking the Rox comp team to Alabama for a week of camping and climbing at Sand Rock and Hospital Boulders. We will leave Rox in a van at noon on Sunday, July 10, and return the night of Friday, July 15.
We will camp in a lovely campground on the mountain at Sand Rock, Alabama. On Monday and Friday we will climb top rope and sport at Sand Rock. On Tuesday and Thursday we will drive 30 minutes to Hospital Boulders for bouldering. On Wednesday we will give our fingers a break from climbing and plan some fun non-climbing activities.
Summer in the South is always hot, but Sand Rock is at altitude, and Sand Rock and Hospital Bouldres have plenty of shade, so the climbing should be hot but fun.
Students are welcome to bring their own camping gear, or we can provide camping gear as needed. No camping experience is necessary. All food will be provided as part of the trip, other than the two meals while we are driving to and from Sand Rock.
The trip will be supervised by four adults: Hal Roberts (AMGA certified outdoor climbing instructor, Wilderness Fist Responder), David DiMauro (AMGA certified outdoor climbing instructor, advanced EMT), coach Kaje (climbing savant), and at least one female parent volunteer.
The cost for the trip is $425. We worked hard to make the cost as low as possible, relying on volunteering for Hal and a parent chaperon and support from Rox for Kaje's time. The cost includes transportation to and from the crag, camping and food for the week, a stipend for David, and permitting and insurance for the trip. A comparable North Caroline climbing day camp costs $700 just for five days of climbing, without transportation, camping, or food.
If you are excited about the trip but can't afford the cost, or have any other questions, contact Hal (hal@mocs-climb.org).
