I love blurring the lines between gardening and ecology. I worked in conservation and horticulture for ten years before getting an MS in Plant Biology, then worked as Assistant Director of Heronswood Garden before starting this business. I'm currently a lecturer in Plant Sciences at the University of Rhode Island, where my research focuses on plant-insect interactions and pollinator conservation. My mission is to grow gardens that support pollinators, require fewer inputs, and evoke the beauty of wild nature. I make ecological gardening more accessible through education, informed plant selection, and smart gardening techniques.

Blair Busenbark explores the science behind mycorrhizae and then moves his focus to how greenhouses, nurseries and landscapers can utilize the power of mycorrhizae in their business. Mycorrhizae will allow greenhouses and nurseries will benefit from the increased water utilization and nutrient efficiency. Landscape Architects and Designers can be given the opportunity to ensure their landscape vision becomes a long-term reality. Landscape installers will appreciate mycorrhizae reducing transplant shock and plant loss, which in turn reduces plant replacement costs. Landscape maintenance crews will appreciate the plant’s improved resilience to stressful conditions and improved garden performance. Thus, allowing them to focus more on landscape maintenance and less on plant care triage. Whatever sector of the horticultural industry you work in, mycorrhizae use can add value to you and your customers, which in turn will increase profits, customer satisfaction and new business referrals.
