Together with butterflies, moths are categorised within the insect order Lepidoptera, and in Ireland some 1,500 species have been recorded to date. Participants will be given a brief introduction to the biology and ecology of moths in general in this workshop before focusing on the practice of how to go about finding, identifying and recording moths, macro-moths in particular, excluding their micro cousins for now. Moths captured from Lullymore Bog will provide the live specimens needed for identification practice.
