The session will look at the foundations of Beyond Equality’s approach in working with young men and boys in conversations around masculinities, gender equality and violence against women and girls (VAWG)-prevention. Through the lens of masculinities, we will empower staff with more knowledge and skills, which will, in turn, build their confidence to embed new frameworks and tools into their working practice. This will, in line with the UK governments’ VAWG Strategy, help them to compassionately support young men and boys to build cultures of individual and collective accountability that are disruptive of harmful behaviour cycles and embed primary prevention models and active bystander approaches.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Greater understanding of the issues faced and caused by the boys and young men both in football and in their lives
  • Empathy and compassion for what informs potentially harmful attitudes and behaviours associated with masculine social norms
  • Frameworks to approach challenging conversations and open up ongoing dialogue and discussion around topics like masculinities, gender equality and VAWG-prevention
  • Confidence to start disrupting cycles of behaviour that may be harming young men and boys, or people of all genders around them
