Comprehensive Refractive Surgery Training
This comprehensive three-day training program is designed for ophthalmic surgeons seeking to strengthen their clinical knowledge and practical skills across the full spectrum of corneal refractive surgery. The course combines evidence-based theoretical instruction, clinical decision-making, platform orientation, and hands-on wet-lab training.
Participants will begin by developing a structured approach to pre-operative evaluation, including corneal topography interpretation, patient selection, and treatment planning. The program then explores surface ablation and LASIK, covering excimer and femtosecond laser principles, surgical techniques, perioperative care, complication management, enhancements, and strategies for managing dissatisfied patients.
The second part of the course focuses on presbyopia correction with PRESBYOND LBV and other approaches, followed by comprehensive SMILE Pro training. Participants will review patient preparation, docking and surgical technique, management of intraoperative complications such as suction loss, black spots, cap tears, and lenticule tears, as well as nomogram development, cyclotorsion management, energy optimization, and enhancement strategies.
The program concludes with an orientation to the VisuMax 800 and MEL 90 platforms, followed by a practical wet-lab session that allows participants to apply the concepts and techniques covered during the course. Interactive Q&A sessions are incorporated throughout the program to encourage case-based discussion and exchange of clinical experience.
Key Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Apply a structured approach to pre-operative assessment and refractive surgery decision-making.
- Interpret corneal topography for treatment planning and patient selection.
- Explain the principles and surgical techniques of surface ablation, LASIK, PRESBYOND LBV, and SMILE Pro.
- Identify, prevent, and manage common intraoperative and postoperative complications.
- Plan enhancement procedures and manage patients with suboptimal outcomes.
- Optimize SMILE outcomes through appropriate patient selection, nomograms, cyclotorsion management, and energy settings.
- Become familiar with the VisuMax 800 and MEL 90 platforms.
- Translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills through wet-lab training.
