Robyn is well known as a prominent Australian wilderness landscape and seascape painter of contemporary realism who started painting in the early 70’s – when traditional art was really taking off and Sydney Galleries were frequent and successful. Most of what she has learned has been learned from the observation of nature and constant hard work – being a self realised artist. Having spent many years painting en plein-air she then graduated to studio work and subjects requiring more time and reference while still retaining the Alla-Prima technique. (Direct painting, wet-in-wet).
Her work can be seen by going to her website http://robyncollier.com.au/
This is a full day workshop where Robyn will demonstrate how to paint atmosphere in a landscape using oils.
This workshop is a turp FREE workshop.
Coffees, teas and light lunch are included
Please book early to secure your place and save money. This year I am offering an "Early Bird" ticket for those that book early
You will need to bring your own painting kits and materials.
Here is a list of suggested materials by the artist:
CANVAS BOARDS 1 x 12”x 16” – ( 31 x 41cm) canvas on board or stretched canvas.
Use good quality canvas. Cheap boards make the job of painting a lot harder as the paint does not flow on very well and you will find yourself filling in a lot of little holes.
BRUSHES – A good selection of reasonable quality long, FLAT SQUARE bristle brushes – say some small, medium and large. A stiff synthetic round 0 and 2 and also a fine sable or synthetic sable for detail 0 or 00. (Art Basics are good). PLEASE DO NOT BRING WORN-OUT BRUSHES OR ONES GUNKED UP AT THE FERRULE!
COLOURS - Artist quality where possible. I don’t mind which brand you use.
REDS Magenta or Pilbara red (whichever one you have)
BLUES Cobalt Blue, Blue Black (W/N), Cerulean Blue
GREENS Sap Green
YELLOWS Cadmium Yellow (or similar) Yellow Ochre, Australian Red Gold
BROWNS Burnt Sienna
WHITE Titanium White.
OTHER ITEMS
Standing or table Easel.
Baby Oil for washing brushes – in a sealed jar – preferably with a grid to aid in the cleaning process. You could also use baby wipes for casual cleaning of brushes.
GAMSOL (I am now using this product as it is one of the safest solvents to use with no smell. Only a small amount is needed.)
PLEASE DO NOT BRING MINERAL TURPS OR ANY TURPS PRODUCT.
A GOOD sized palette. You will need plenty of room for mixing colours.
Double Dipper or Single Dipper
Palette knife for mixing colours. (diamond shaped pliable one – medium sized)
Your normal painting kit including plenty of rags and paper towel, baby wipes.
Kneadable Putty rubber – thin willow charcoal if you would like to try my method of drawing in.
I will provide a colour reproduction to work from and handouts.
