Even though a zero code is a much warranted immediate objective, one which will take us far down the path to better energy utilization, as architects we know that code standards are only one part of a holistic view of the built environment that we see as our professional responsibility.

In looking at the bigger picture, the AIA National Resolution on Climate adopted in 2019 was the most comprehensive statement and commitment by our Institute in its 162 year history towards recognizing the current state of our world and what we must do to ensure a sustainable future for all living systems on our planet.  AIANC adopted this resolution in a unanimous vote of its Board of Directors one year ago, in September of 2020.

Adoption of this resolution is not a mandate for AIA Chapters nor Sections. However, by adopting the resolution at the Section level we are making the statement that we are united in our mission and committed to leadership in our industry in research and in action.

For this reason, as AIANC Director of Environmental Sustainability, Richard Alsop, AIA will be joining us for a conversation about the resolution and options for its adoption locally. He will be available to respond to any questions.

(NOTE- We will ask that the first 15 minutes of this meeting be focused on ideas for activities AIA Asheville can focus on in 2022. Mainly we ask that you come with ideas for public-facing events that we can do locally to raise awareness about architecture in the region. However, all ideas for the coming year are welcome.)
