July 17-24, 2027 from St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada
Photograph the amazing seabirds and whales that make their home in Newfoundland each summer, including:
- Atlantic Puffins
- Northern Gannets
- Razorbills & Murres
- Humpback whales from a private zodiac
Activity Level: Moderate
Most of the shooting locations are only a short walk from the parking area, however, you must be able to carry your photography gear on uneven terrain over modest distances, up to 1/2 mile each way.
Core Itinerary
- Saturday, July 17th: Arrive in St. John's, Newfoundland (YYT). This is an arrival day to accommodate people with late-arrivals into St. John's. Transfer to the group hotel and relax before the journey begins.
- Sunday, July 18th: Free day in St. John's & harbor photo walk. We'll meet mid-day to explore St. John's harbor, just a short walk from the group hotel downtown. This evening, we'll meet our safari guide for dinner at a local seafood restaurant in St. John's for lobster or whatever you prefer.
- Monday, July 19th: Get ready for an exhilarating day as we drive to Cape St. Mary’s, one of North America’s most stunning wildlife photography locations. Stand on the edge of the dramatic cliffs and photograph thousands of northern gannets and other seabirds in their natural habitat. The sheer number of birds and the rugged landscape create a breathtaking scene. As evening approaches, we'll return to photograph the gannets during the golden hour. The soft, warm light will enhance your shots of these majestic birds, making for some truly spectacular images.
- Tuesday, July 20th: We'll start early with another shoot at the gannet colony before embarking on a scenic drive to the town of Bonavista. Bonavista’s rugged coastline, historic landmarks, and colorful architecture provide endless photographic inspiration. Bonavista is also near the puffin colony at Elliston, where we'll be able to photograph them as they nest on the rugged cliffs.
- Wednesday, July 21: We’ll start by immersing ourselves in the vibrant world of Elliston, renowned for its lively Atlantic puffin colony. As you navigate the cliffs, you’ll have the chance to get up close and personal with these charming seabirds. With guidance from your expert photographer, you’ll capture captivating portraits of puffins against the dramatic backdrop of the rugged coastline.
Adding a touch of excitement to the day, we'll embark by zodiac to photograph the humpback whales feeding in the coastal waters. The zodiac trip also offers the chance to photograph seabirds soaring above and the ever-changing seascape.
- Thursday, July 22nd: We'll have another day in Bonavista to photograph the puffins, plus a second whale-watching trip by zodiac to get another opportunity to photograph breeching humpbacks!
- Friday, July 23rd: We'll visit the puffin colony in the morning for one last photo opportunity then we'll make the drive back to St. John's, arriving back at our hotel in the late afternoon.
- Saturday, July 24th: Check out and depart for home with your hard drive full of incredible photos and your head full of amazing memories.

Reservations & Cancellations
Please read the following as this is a unique, small-group experience.
Your place on this photo safari is confirmed with a $1,999 USD deposit per person at the time of booking. This allows me to guarantee the necessary arrangements with our safari operator in Canada.
The remaining balance is due on March 1, 2027. Because this is an intimate, limited-capacity experience, reservations made after the final payment deadline will require full payment at the time of booking. Please note: payments made by credit card are subject to a 3% transaction fee.
This tour is designed for a small group of 4 to 5 guests. Pricing, accommodations, and logistics are arranged specifically for that group size.
If Your Plans Change
I understand that life can be unpredictable, and I will always aim to handle any changes with clarity, fairness, and care.
- Cancellations received on or before November 1, 2026 are eligible for a refund of the deposit, less anypayment processing fees and any unrecoverable costs already committed on your behalf.
- Cancellations received after November 1, 2026 result in the full forfeiture of the $1,999 USD deposit.
- If a guest withdraws after November 1, 2026, we will make every reasonable effort to fill the space beforethe final payment deadline.
- If the space is successfully filled, any refund to the canceled guest will be considered at our discretion, lessany unrecoverable costs, currency losses, and administrative expenses.
Small-Group Viability
This experience is carefully costed and contracted based on a minimum of 4 confirmed guests.
If a cancellation after November 1, 2026 reduces the group below that minimum and the remaining space cannot be filled in time, I reserve the right to cancel the departure.
Should that happen:
- The canceling guest will forfeit the full deposit
- Guests who have not canceled will receive a refund of amounts paid, less their proportionate share of any unrecoverable supplier costs, contractual charges, currency losses, and administrative expenses
- If any such costs are later reduced, recovered, or avoided, those amounts will be returned to the affected guests
If We Need to Cancel
If I should cancel the tour for any reason other than the departure no longer meeting the required minimum group size following a guest cancellation, all amounts paid directly to us will be refunded in full.
Please note that I cannot assume responsibility for independent travel arrangements or related expenses, including airfare, additional hotel nights, visa fees, travel insurance, or other personal costs booked separately.
Travel Insurance
