A short summary on Nettle (Urtica dioica)

Do you suffer from:

  • Exhaustion

  • PMS/Menopause

  • Infertility

  • Anemia

  • Gout

  • Rheumatism

  • Menstrual difficulties (heavy bleeding)

  • Skin problems

  • Allergies

  • Hay fever

  • Hives

Nettle (Urtica dioica) is my hands-down favorite plant to harvest. It is LEGION in its practical uses for a myriad of health issues and has many medicinal uses as well as being a superfood powerhouse of a nutritive plant. Not many plants can compare to its nutritional benefits.

Nettle can be cooked and eaten, brewed as beer, infused as tea or tincture, and much more. It was once one of the most important plants used in the manufacture of cloth, and many judged nettle fabric to be finer than cotton or linen.

The ancient Greeks and Romans cultivated more acres of nettle than any other crop, and they used it extensively as food and medicine as well as in clothing.

Nutritional/Medicinal Uses

Rich in a full spectrum of vitamins and minerals, especially iron and calcium, nettle is an excellent tonic herb (taken daily) and is useful for children's "growing pains" and "creaky joints" that ache and are painful.

Nettle cleanses the blood and tones up the whole system. It also helps to expel exess mucus from all parts of the body.

Nettle has anti-histamine properties that make it an excellent remedy for allergies and hayfever.

Because of its nutritive properties and positive effects on the liver, nettle is also an excellent tonic for the reproductive system of both men and women.

Nettle is an amazing plant to use for PMS and menstrual difficulties, fertility issues, and menopausal issues, and nettle seeds are used for both a preventive and a curative for prostate issues

I use nettle personally as a general tonic to fortify and build my energy when I'm overworked and tired (think exhausted adrenals). This is one of my favorite all-around remedies.

Nettle makes an amazing tea, and is one of the most delicious greens ever, especially sauteed with butter and garlic or in a nettle lasagna or lemon nettle lavender cupcakes for a divine dessert.

Nettle Season

Nettle season is quickly coming to a close. Once the plants start flowering the harvest is over. Then, we have to wait another whole year to be able to harvest again. :(

This nettle class is the ONLY class that will be offered for the season. The next class will not be until next year.

So, if this is something you have always wanted to do, DO IT! Don't think twice about it. Trust me, you will NOT regret it, You will have so much fun and come away with so much knowledge about this amazing nutritive/medicinal plant, you will kick yourself for not taking a class sooner.

Bring a friend, a relative, come alone and make new friends, find your tribe.....everyone who comes are there for the same reason.....to learn traditional medicine making skills, to start the healing journey (like myself), and to learn how to cook with nettles. This class is ALL hands-on and you will go home with medicine (YOU made) and delicious treats the group made.

I'm only taking 20 participants for this class.

I prefer small classes so nobody gets lost in the group and feels left out.

I hope it will be YOU who decides (like I did years ago) to do something you have always wanted to do.....forage, wildcraft, make medicine, find yourself in nature.

If you feel this class is calling to your inner creative spirit....don't hesitate to sign up today. Just do it. You will NOT regret it.

Hope to see you at the Freeman Homestead (Lyman, WA) for a fun filled amazing day!!

Darci Ridenhour

I am a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), RESTART Instructor, Recovery Coach, and Wildcrafter I wholeheartedly believe that "Food is thy medicine and medicine is thy food!" (Hippocrates) I have a passion for helping women on their healing journey, guiding them to health, wellness and vitality. Several years ago I found myself very sick, so sick that I lost all hope and almost took my life. This is when Spirit spoke to me and told me to get up, do not be afraid, it wasn't my time yet and that He had great plans for me. I did just that, I got up, reached out, and found a sisterhood that saved my life. They came alongside me, walked with me, guided me, and helped me on my healing journey. As part of my journey, I did something I had always wanted to do......forage for plants and make my own medicine. Little did I know that it would be nature that nurtured me through the tough times. I was taught about love, peace, and rest. I would find myself under a large tree, my feet in the dirt, grounding myself under its large protective arms. Now I am being called to reach down and help other women find themselves, to help them out of the pit of hopelessness I once lived in. I will NEVER go back to that pit ever again. If I can help save one woman, one woman, then I know I was "saved" for a reason. If you feel like it is your time, then I hope you will reach out, find your tribe, find yourself!
