NersEyeView Nethradama is a 3-day intensive comprehensive training program for ophthalmology residents from all over India. 24 per session residents are invited region-wise to our hospital for 3 days and their travel and accommodation is paid for. They are divided into 4 groups of 6 students each and spend 2 days rotating through the hospital in various departments including Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Glaucoma, Retina, Pediatric ophthalmology and Squint, Oculoplasty, Cornea and General Ophthalmology. During the rotation, they go from station to station. Each station has an expert trainer who trains them
in that particular machine/diagnostic device/procedure and gives each student hands-on training at the end. The small groups allows for one-on-one interaction and freedom to ask questions and doubts. One of the days is dedicated to Surgical training where they are first trained in all the instruments used in different specialties. They then observe live cataract and refractive surgery on the Artevo 800 3D viewing system, Quatera 700 and Visumax 800. They are then transported by our bus to the training center where they perform 8 different
wet labs which include – Phaco, MSICS, Trabeculectomy, Corneal Suturing, Corneal Scraping, Corneal Trephination, Intravitreal Injection and Sub-Tenon’s block. At the end of this day we have a dinner party and ophthalmic games where representatives from Zeiss give talks and interact with the students. The course completion certificates are given at this event.
