We’re making animated movies and music from our favorite stories in this hands-on week of creative fun. We’ll create hand-made instruments like a beatbox, a fruit piano, an electric guitar, and a Dance Dance Revolution dancing mat with Makey Makey and Scratch coding. We’ll create our own animated movies using original music and pixel animations with Scratch Coding and Piskel! We’ll remake and record our own versions of our favorite movie songs like Let It Go! from Frozen, You Have a Friend in Me from Toy Story, I’m a Believer from Shrek, and Everything is Awesome from LEGO Movie! We’ll hack our headphones with Micro:bit MakeCode and build cord instruments, drums, maracas and a harmonica so the band can keep the beat. And we’ll make giant marques and billboard charts to show off our movies and music, timed to Redstone Minecraft beats. We are gonna rock so let the cameras roll!
Projects we’ll create!
Hands-on Creativity: Design and build all kinds of musical instruments, like a cardboard guitar, a fruit piano, and maracas to celebrate original peoples.
Makey Makey & Micro:bit Microcontrollers: Let’s start the Dance Dance Revolution by creating a circuit-based dance mat that challenges you to match a sound with a dance move and create a beatbox with alien sounds to make contact with intelligent but unknown life forms. Then hack your headphones by coding beats for your songs using Micro:bit microcontroller and MakeCode coding.
Google Song Maker: Remix and create your own music as inspired by your favorite songs like Let It Go! from Frozen, You Have a Friend in Me from Toy Story, I’m a Believer from Shrek, and Everything is Awesome from LEGO Movie!
Minecraft Engineering: Build a functional beatbox to record improvised songs and musical loops from Redstone circuits in a sandbox world of your own creation.
Piskel Animation: Draw, paint and animate movies with your own characters, settings and backdrops.
Scratch Coding: Give functionality to all of your Makey Makey instruments, from the simplest note, to an interactive music video for a song.
