This training counts towards the SAFETY category of the SOS Children's Villages Illinois training plan, and is recommended for all Professional Foster Parents, Relief Parents, and Child Welfare Specialists.  Key topics to be covered include the following:

  • Proper storage of prescription and OTC medications
  • Maintaining medication (packaging and relevant information, i.e. keep it in the original package, label with name of user, etc.)
  • Appropriate disposal of expired or unused medications, syringes, medical waste, etc.
  • Administration of OTC Medications
  • Administration of Emergency Medications
  • Documenting medication administration in accordance with DCFS standards
