The Islamic Cultural Centre & The London Central Mosque, 146 Park Road , London , United Kingdom, NW8 7RG, United Kingdom.
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the UK today and Muslims are a significant minority in the capital city, London. Everywhere in the city, traditional forms of Muslim dress are observable, as are the minarets of Mosques and the sounds of the call to prayer. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is a practising Muslim. But what do non-Muslims know about Islam: the religion, the culture and the faith? How much of that knowledge reflects media stereotypes that trade in fear of Islam? At the London Central Mosque and Cultural Centre, we will talk to religious leaders and interfaith representatives about what it's like to be a Muslim in London today; and which parts of the world London's Muslim communities hail from originally (as well as why they came to Britain in the first place). This will be a unique opportunity for you to ask questions of London's Muslim community about what is undoubtedly an incredibly powerful world religion. The visit is strongly recommended for students interested in the history of the British Empire, international/Middle Eastern politics, and religious/cultural identity after 9/11.
