The Michigan Midwives Association (MMA) represents a network of midwives, childbirth professionals, and students, and the spectrum of the Midwives Model of Care. We believe out-of-hospital births, attended by trained midwives, are an essential option for healthy women and their families. We support the rights of parents to make informed decisions about childbirth. The MMA supports advances in the profession of midwifery which enhance quality, community, and education among midwives, consumers, and other health care providers. OB/GYN
PA 417 passed in January 2016. Our rules set that lays out the nitty gritty of our practice just passed. We're getting our licenses and now must join the community of other licensed health professionals in Michigan. What does it all mean? How can we possibly sort out all of these new rules and regulations? Join MMA President Stacia Proefrock as she breaks it all down, step by step and makes this complicated process seem less overwhelming. A legislative doula, as it were. Also included -- best practices for informed consent, stats reporting, paperwork, and more. Midwifery students finishing their programs after December 31, 2019 will have to graduate from a MEAC accredited program in order to be licensed in Michigan. What does that mean? What's it like to go to one of these schools? What's it like to be a preceptor for a student from one of these schools? What are your options? Full-time, part-time, in-person, low-residency, distance, intensive? What are the costs? We have students and preceptors both from several popular programs across the United States offering their real-life stories and leading the way. This session is both for aspiring midwifery students and midwives who are interested in mentoring students.
