The U.S. CLOUD Act extends American jurisdiction to data held by U.S.-based cloud providers, regardless of where that data physically resides. For Canadian corporations and institutions with fiduciary and regulatory obligations around client, employee, and operational data, this is no longer a theoretical conflict-of-laws question—it is an active compliance and liability exposure.
