The Code of Professional Conduct applies to all individuals who are licensed through the Department of Education. While a degree prepares, a license employs. Therefore, it is critical to know the expectations for conduct, reporting procedure, and potential discipline outcomes. Changes in Education have added focus areas: technology, data, student privacy, and bullying. The Office of Professional Conduct continues to see a steady increase of referrals and investigations each year. Learn how to protect your credibility and future.

This inservice session is a simple overview of sensory and how it affects access to learning. Participants will learn how to modify the learning environment. They will be shown a variety of available resources and will also be able to discern between behavior and sensory issues. This inservice will review some material covered in the last presentation but will also contain new information. It is open to general education teachers as well as intervention specialists. There will also be a Q and A for specific questions/scenarios.

Appalachian Stewards: teaching about life cycles, food webs, and environmental restoration through American Ginseng. Rural Action's Environmental Education and Sustainable Forestry programs have teamed up to create a mini-unit focused on American Ginseng, Goldenseal, and Ramps to blend life sciences with environmental restoration and conservation. We will review plant parts, learn about American Ginseng's role in a food web and its economic value, and learn the technique for planting Ginseng in a forest. We use this lesson mostly in collaboration with 4th and 5th grade classrooms but it can also have value for middle and high school teachers.
An informational presentation that unfolds many layers of the complex and expanding issue of human trafficking – more specifically sex-trafficking. Sex-trafficking happens all over the world including here in our own communities. Sex-trafficking is an uneasy topic to grasp, but is a subject that needs to be discussed. This presentation will provide a safe place to examine various aspects of this disturbing crisis. We will discuss what sex-trafficking looks like locally; red-flags that someone may be a victim; vulnerabilities that traffickers look for; how to protect our youth (who to report to and how); barriers and stigmas that prevent victims from being identified; as well as how to become involved in eradicating modern-day slavery.
