Course Description: This one day course is designed to teach you the student the basics of defensive pistol-handling. The goal of Raven Defense is to help you build your tool box and give you a stable shooting platform that you can add on to, making you safer and a more accurate shooter.

During this course we will be using both dry fire and live-fire exercises that will focus on defensive pistol-handling skills to help prepare for you for home defense and personal defense situations. We will start by going over pistol presentation (drawing your weapon) We will also be covering malfunctions and reloads and fighting from behind cover. We will also be shooting and moving. We will look over your gear and make sure it will work and see if you should make any changes to it. This class will be full of good info.

First and foremost we will cover safety and Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper's Four Rules of Gun Safety. We will also touch on situational awareness and the principals of personal defense as we go over your defensive mindset.

Lunch: Class will start at 0800 and end around 430/500. The end time will depend on class size and how fast or slow the students grasp the material. We will take a lunch around 11 or 12. Time will depend on where we are in the class. Its up to you what you do for lunch, but I would highly recommend bringing a lunch. We will have a lot to cover and the sooner we can get started after lunch the better.

We will cover the following:

  1. 4 Rules to live by (safety rules)
  2. Firearms training
  3. Stance
  4. Grip
  5. Loading and unloading
  6. Presentation from the holster
  7. Threat assessment and area scanning
  8. Combat marksmanship, target analysis
  9. Reloads and ammo management
  10. Clearing malfunctions, Tap Rack Bang
  11. Operations check
  12. Dry fire and live fire drills
  13. Fundamental diagnostics and correcting fundamental errors

For the class you will need a pistol in good working order. Preferably 9mm or greater, a retention holster made to fit your gun. A one size fits all holster will not work. 250 rounds, a minimum of three mags and a double mag pouch or two single mag pouches. You will also need eye and ear protection. Also, please bring any snacks or drinks you may want for the day. You will get an email with all this info after you sign up.

If you have any questions about the class or about gear please feel free to call me. If you need to buy gear, I recommend going to FirstChoice FireArms in Murray. They know exactly what you need for class.
