Event Abstract

Embark on a captivating journey through the skies of history with "A Brief History of Army Flying, 1861 - 1957." Join this month’s RAeS Heathrow Branch lecture, as we explore the early days of military aviation, tracing its roots from the Royal Engineers to the formation of the Army Air Corps in 1957.

Discover the remarkable evolution of aerial warfare in the UK, from the pioneering days of the Royal Flying Corps to the establishment of the Royal Air Force. Delve into the interwar period, characterised by collaborative army-cooperation efforts, the creation of the Air Observation Post squadrons, and the daring exploits of the Glider Pilot Regiment.

Steered by Mike, a guide from the Museum of Army Flying, we'll uncover the triumphs and challenges that shaped the course of history. Prepare to be intrigued as we uncover a century of innovation, bravery, and the enduring legacy of those who took to the skies in service of their country.
