Due to a vanishing advantage of its labor cost and other competing forces, innovation has become increasingly important for Chinese market. Meanwhile, the current trade talks between the US and China have triggered new attention and uncertainties to the world's economic landscape. The lecture will help students gain deeper appreciation of the complexities and driving forces in present day Chinese economic development, and provide them with the first-hand knowledge of the status quo of Chinese innovations in four categories (e.g., science-based, consumer-based, engineering-based and efficiency-based). Students will learn how a uniquely large-sized Chinese market and state-led initiatives influence and contribute to Chinese innovation and the developments of E-commerce. It also discusses if followers advantage applies in China, how the US-China trade conflicts may impact Chinese firms prosperity, and cooperation and economic integration in a global era.

Students will have an opportunity to connect and exchange perspectives with their fellow students from IFSA programs in other sites and engage in stimulating discussions on issues that are not just relevant to China and in the immediate term, but that may shape global business behaviors of next generation.

The lecture will be hosted by the IFSA Shanghai Flagship.  London attendees will engage with the presentation and interactive exchange via video conferencing.
