Dr. Florence is bringing her passion for cooking and a taste of Indonesia to the Yellow Springs community! Her culinary journey, rooted in the diverse flavors of Chinese and Indonesian cuisine from her childhood in Jakarta, will be showcased at MAZU. The five-course dinner she has meticulously planned is a testament to her heritage and expertise. This event is not just a meal, but a cultural immersion, lovingly prepared by Florence for the enjoyment of all.

1. The vibrant colors of "Gado-gado," a harmonious blend of kale, potatoes, cabbage, and carrots, all united by a creamy peanut sauce that carries a gentle whisper of heat.

2. The grilled eggplant appetizer, mingling with a robust tomato pepper sauce, accompanied by the satisfying crunch of a tempeh cracker, setting the stage for a vibrant array of traditional dishes.

3. The "Lodeh" stew offers a comforting embrace with its medley of tender vegetables like young jackfruit and chayote, all bathed in a rich coconut milk that warms the soul.

4. The main course, "Nasi Kuning," Indonesian yellow rice adorned with crispy potatoes and peanuts, paired with a symphony of tofu, green beans, and mushrooms in a lively stir-fry, topped with delicate onion crackers.

5. The sweet finale, "Klepon" awaits—glutinous rice balls that yield to a burst of molten coconut palm sugar, lightly covered in a blanket of shaved young coconut is sure to leave diners with a lasting impression of Indonesia's sweet indulgences.

Dr. Florence is an Associate Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders who currently lives in Columbus with her husband and three children who are often involved in local musical productions.
