AHA collective, 31, Yerevan, Yerevan, 0002, Armenia.

We are pleased to invite you to an intimate talk-performance by Karine Davtyan and Lavrent Hovhannisyan on Thursday, October 1 at 7 PM.

The artists will speak about the body of work presented at the gallery, developed jointly over the past five years. They will share the conceptual and material processes behind their emerging practice as an artist couple, and how their architectural and material research, as well as their travels, inform their way of working.

The conversation will develop through a live performance, with the artists activating each piece through mobile lighting. As light moves across the spatial collages and is drawn into their forms, shadows transform each composition. Our perception shifts, new spatial relationships emerge, and the unseen becomes visible.

We want to offer each participant an intimate experience of the works and the artists’ process, so participation is limited to 15 people. Please reserve your place through Eventzilla to meet the artists and take part in this first public perceptual and spatial performance.

The title of the event makes reference to Jun'ichirō Tanizaki’s eponymous essay, an exquisite meditation on Japanese aesthetics and the ways in which shadows shape our perception of space.

About Organizer

AHA collective Organizer name

AHA collective is a curatorial practice engaged internationally, rooted in Yerevan, Armenia. Founded in 2019 by curator and art historian Nairi Khatchadourian, AHA collective's work is situated at the intersection of contemporary art, independent publishing, critical museology, and placemaking. At the core of AHA collective lies a commitment to curating as a social and political engagement, one that questions institutional frameworks and complex narratives, while reimagining exhibition formats, modes of artistic production and mediation, and exploring the role of placemaking across urban and rural contexts. AHA’s gallery in Yerevan exhibits and sells works by artists from diverse backgrounds across the modern and contemporary eras, with a strong focus on emerging voices and overlooked figures from Armenia and its diaspora. Through curated exhibitions, public programs, and critical dialogue, the gallery contributes to a broader recognition of Armenian art within the global cultural discourse.
