The new Inspection Framework identifies long-term memory development as an essential part of the primary phase of education ... “Over the course of study, teaching is designed to help learners to remember in the long-term the content they have been taught and to integrate new knowledge into larger concepts.” (OFSTED 2019)

Our new one day course will help schools to implement a strong focus on improving pupils’ retention of key knowledge. The course will cover :

- how to improve the retention of knowledge and skills

- developing teaching styles and methods to enhance long-term memory

- the concept of ‘deep’ learning

- the importance of memory in learning and pedagogy

- maximising opportunities to retain key knowledge

- understanding metacognition and how it applies to long term learning

- how questioning approaches can alter retention

The course will look at a wide variety of examples and give practical solutions to improving memory. It will look at examples of schools where this has paid dividends in terms of improved outcomes.
