Dear Member,
The IStructE Regional Group , wish to invite you to the following hybrid presentation:
The presentation outlines a practical approach to implementing computational design within a structural engineering department, focusing on how digital tools can enhance efficiency, consistency, and design quality rather than replace engineering judgment. It explores different organisational models for adoption, the range of available computational tools, and a step-by-step implementation strategy starting with high-impact, low-risk use cases. Emphasis is placed on prioritising tasks where computation adds real value - such as automation, optimisation, and rapid optioneering -while maintaining robust quality control and clear ownership. The aim is to embed computational thinking into everyday engineering workflows in a scalable and sustainable way.
Calum Perey, IStructE Regional Group Chair, will be moderating the session and there will be questions and answers at the end.
Location : Heriot Watt University Dubai
Date : 12th February 2026
Time : 06:30 pm - 8:00 pm
