Twice a year the Library of Congress opens its Main Reading room to the public, offering a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the Library’s resources as well as an opportunity to photograph the Reading Room and the magnificent domed ceiling from the inside. February 17, 2020 is the first open house of 2020! Apart from these two days in the year, visitors can view the Reading Room only through the upper gallery.
Join us for this free self-paced tour, we will meet just inside the LOC on the main floor and then join the queue to the Reading Room, which will open at 10am (until 3pm). Once inside, you are free to roam around and take pictures, and ask available docents about anything you wish. In particular, the LOC is highlighting African American History Month. You are free to stay as long as you wish, the LOC will be open until 4:30pm.
Separately, the LOC is offering a workshop on “Preserving Family Photographs” from 11-noon. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required, this event is not related to IPS, your sign up for the walk does not sign you up for this workshop. If interested, tickets are available via Eventbrite at https://family-photos-lc.eventbrite.com.
