In association with The UK Ministry of Justice and UK Government’s Toronto, The Legal Innovation Forum presents an exclusive roundtable:
A Second Draft for Globalization: A New Paradigm for Trade
Challenges, trends and opportunities in developing the UK-Canada trading relationship
As globalization enters a new era shaped by geopolitical shifts, regulatory fragmentation, technological disruption, and economic volatility, traditional approaches to international trade are no longer sufficient. This roundtable will explore how governments, legal practitioners, and business leaders can collaborate to shape a modern framework for cross-border trade, investment, and dispute resolution.
The UK is Canada’s largest trading partner in Europe, yet the two countries still operate without a formal bilateral trade agreement. With increasing alignment around democratic values, innovation, and regulatory ambition - particularly in ESG and tech - there is a strong foundation for deeper collaboration.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet senior UK government leaders including Sarah Sackman, Minister of State for Courts & Legal Services at The Ministry of Justice UK, and Baroness Catherine Smith of Cluny KC, Advocate General for Scotland.
This roundtable will examine what a second draft of globalization might look like between Canada and the UK and how lawyers and government leaders can lead the way.
Timed to coincide with the IBA’s global gathering of 5,000+ legal professionals, this exclusive event offers a unique opportunity to engage in focused dialogue with decision-makers across borders and industries.
