Legal Context
Intermsofsection16(3)hoftheFoodSafetyandStandardsAct2006,theFood Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)has to ensure training (whether withinoroutsidetheirarea)ofpersonswhoareorintendtobecomeinvolvedin foodbusinesses,whetherasfoodbusinessoperatorsoremployeesorotherwise. Itisaccordinglydesiredthat-
a) Allfoodbusinesseshavingcentrallicencesorstatelicensesshouldhaveat leastonetrainedandcertifiedfoodsafetysupervisorforevery25food- handlersorpartthereofonalltheirpremises.
b) Thesesupervisorsshouldinturncarryoutperiodiconsitetrainingofall foodhandlers,atleastonquarterlybasisandmaintainrecordthereoffor foodsafetyauditandinspections.
c) Foodhandlersinallpettyfoodbusinessesthatareregisteredshouldbe trained andcertified.
