Fab Lab is non-stop, hands-on FUNdamentals in physics, chemistry, and computer programming to build a lifelong love of science! We’re creating glow in the dark slime, turning milk into plasticcreating electricity with fruitwriting secret messages with invisible ink, creating tiny volcanos, miniature explosions, water that glows in the darksuper bouncing ballsfireworks in a cup, Archimedes screwballs, rainbow rain, Galileo-inspired periscopes and kaleidoscopes, gumdrop molecules, gravity defying beads, and elephant toothpaste! We’ll learn how to prototype and code our contraptions with Micro:bit devices and Makey Makey microcontrollers, making anything from an off road buggy to ball shooting battle bots or a music sequencer to record your raps, beats, and loops. Step into the Fab Lab!

Projects we’ll Create!

  • Hands-On Art & Engineering: Condense a raining rainbow and fireworks in a jar, experiment with a chromatography flower project, and build amazing visual effects with a kaleidoscope. Get your engineering creativity going with water that glows in the dark, secret messages with invisible ink, DIY crystals, and slime that changes colors when the temperature changes! Build a geodesic structure with straws, prevent an egg from cracking after falling with a parachute that will be useful for astronauts to come home safe, make electricity with potatoes and lemons, a rocket launching station.

  • Circuit Robot Building & Experiments: Build robots from simple circuits using motors, batteries, microcontrollers, etc.

  • Microcontrollers: Transform anything into a funny game with Makey Makey by creating a dancing mat that challenges you to match a sound with a dance move and turn fruits into keys for a piano, and create a beatbox with alien sounds to make contact with intelligent but unknown life forms. Then create your own games with Micro:bit microcontroller and MakeCode coding such as rock, paper, scissors and hot potato.
